Richmond, Tasmania

After leaving Swansea, we headed south towards Hobart and stopped in Richmond for lunch and a look around. Richmond is full of historical colonial buildings and seems to be a largely intact version of a Georgian town about 25km north of Hobart.



Below are some more pictures of the historic Richmond Bridge. The Richmond Bridge was built over the Coal River by convict labour from 1823 to 1825 and is the oldest bridge in Australia that is still in regular use for traffic. It is wide enough for one lane of traffic in each direction plus footpath and looks as though this sandstone arch construction was built to stand the test of time.
